Giuliani on rogue dictators roaming NYC

Rudy on Iran, in CNN video interview. And other foreign policy questions about which he is very blunt. There is no mistaking, no wishy-washiness, abouty his foreign policy positions. And he's still polling ahead of, or head-to-head at least, with Hillary.

The guy asks him about putting the Emergency Response HQ in the building he did, he points out that the CIA and the Secret Service also had their HQ in that building. Has anyone else brought that up before?

With Dinnerjacket still threatening to visit Ground Zero, some of us long for the days when Rudy was mayor.

More Rudy on foreign policy below:

Bolton on rogue dictators roaming NYC

Stephen Spruiell at The Corner:

Even though the NYPD has rejected Ahmadinejad's request to visit Ground Zero, one local TV station is reporting that he might try to visit anyway, and that if he did, he would be "accompanied by a Secret Service protective detail, a detail provided to all heads of state when they visit the United States."

But former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton told National Review Online this morning that the U.S. would be well within its rights as host country to limit Ahmadinejad's travel:

Under the U.N. participation act and our commitment as the host country, we have agreed going back to the beginning of the U.N. to let any head of state or any country that's a member of the U.N. send its officially accredited leaders and diplomats in to participate in U.N.-related activities. That's a pain in the neck, frankly, but that's part of the price of being the host country.

What we never gave up was the right to limit their travel outside of Turtle Bay and wherever their hotel happens to be. [The Iranians] will try to raise a fuss about that. I'm sure the visit was nothing but propaganda.

Apparently the U.S. government can keep Ahmadinejad from visiting Ground Zero if it wants to. So why wouldn't it?

UPDATE: One of Michelle's commenters notes that the Marines are filming an infomercial in Times Square very early that morning. Another blogger says:

In a world of perfect karma, Ahmadinejad would be captured by American "students" and held hostage for over a year, paraded before TV cameras and threatened almost daily with death.

i see the beginnings of a plan . . . .

My 9-11 story

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, I was working from home on an instructional design project. I got up late and moseyed over to my computer in the office.

I glanced at the local paper, the mediocre Austin-American Statesman, but it had hit my doorstep before 8 AM New York time. And I didn't have a TV (still don't); I had gotten used to getting my news by listening to NPR's "All Things Considered" at 4 PM.

So I didn't know about the attacks until a friend called me about 11 AM to inform me that the Tuesday evening class we were taking at our synagogue had been cancelled, "because of what happened."

"What happened?" I asked.

9-11 around the blogosphere (will be updated throughout the day)

Rick Rescorla, Vietnam hero, head of security for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, killed on September 11, 2001, helping employees escape the towers. This interview is from 1998. (Via Mudville Gazette) He's espousing the blow-back theory.

Lots and lots and lots of photos. From the weeks following the attacks. From satellites. Aerial. From the ground.

Jameel remembers a friend of a friend - an Orthodox Jew who worked at Cantor-Fiztgerald. Her remains were not identified until 3 years later, and they were buried in Israel, where some of her family is.

Like me, Neo-neocon remembers some of the leftist cant from September 12.

Like me, Bryan Preston got it right away:

A post-punk 9-11 story

Remember Blogs of War? One of the best post-9-11 blogs, which doesn't exist anymore. This is the original link for this story, but it doesn't point to it anymore. But I copied it.

I don't know this person, but I know the story. It is the same kind of story some of my friends tell.

Frank writes:

My friend Tristin is the publicist at Lookout Records and the smartest person I know. One of her dearest and oldest friends was on American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center on September 11th. In the intensely grief-stricken aftermath, the indecent posturing of many spokesmen for the Left in America led her to embark on a serious self-examination and re-evaluation of her politics. She wrote a powerful and heartfelt letter about it, which she sent to all her friends and associates, and which got forwarded all over the place.

A remembrance of September 11th

My friend "Brazilian Neocon" writes:

This morning I intentionally woke up early in order to follow all the coverage of the comemorations of the sixth anniversary of 9/11.

Then approximately half and hour before the first plane hit, Fox News showed a beautiful recap of the events on that sad day. Diferently from any other station, they made a point of, yes, showing what others refuse to show - people jumping from the WTC. I know many here criticize the MSM for refusing to show that, in a PC attempt to increasingly water down the horror of that day.

Many here know how that day was important to me too, thousands of miles away. Shortly, I had a flight scheduled to Japan through America that day, and I was on my way out when a relative called and told me to turn on the TV. As I turned on the TV set, the second plane hit the WTC, live. Six days later I got to fly (through Dallas) and saw how it felt in America, a few days after the fact. Arriving in Japan, I met people who lost friends that day. That made me get interested in terrorism and from that day on I started studying all I could, reading all the books I got my hands on.

All those efforts payed off - now I do work directly in counterterrorism in my country's government, and I am on my way to get an advanced degree on Islam and the Middle-East, so that I can do my work more efficiently (and eventually, four ou five years from now, move to America - legally! - so that I can work on the area with a greater impact).

So, I thank the folks at Fox for not cowering behind political correctness and showing the full extent of the horror that swept us all that day.

P.S. They said that they will not show again the planes hitting today, as a show of respect. They made a point of showing the whole thing once, and that's all.

Muslim Leftists Love America, Western Leftists Hate America

As I've stressed repeatedly, one of the reasons for my post-9/11 political shift from left to right, and that of many others in the same camp, has been the Western left's attachment to anti-Americanism, even when it lands them on the same side as dictators, Islamists, and terrorists. Blinded by the sort of hatred of their own country and civilization produced by years of indoctrination in what I like to call the postcolonialist, self-loathing school of multiculturalism, today's leftists are incapable of recognizing the true threats to their own existence. Instead, they cling to familiar demons and push reactionary policies.

"See? It's just a bicycle!"

Kesher Talk co-blogger Asher, responding to last week's San Francisco bike wilding:

Yet another paradigmatic detail: In the hands of dedicated thugs, even the most seemingly harmless, common objects (baby bottles, bicycles, ideas) can be turned into dangerous weapons.

But as soon as defensive measures are taken (or even contemplated), an air of wounded innocence is assumed and the object magically reverts to its innocuous state:

"See? It's just a bicycle!"

Emotional manipulation is a weapon too.

Bob adds:

Psychology Today Prints Asher Abrams' Letter

Late last year, I was interviewed for a Psychology Today article on political ideology and transformation titled "The Ideological Animal," which appeared in the January/February issue.

While I felt that the article treated my story of post-9/11 left-to-right political transformation fairly, I disagreed strongly with the author, Jay Dixit's, take on what inspires such political shifts. In short, Dixit implied that they are motivated purely by "irrational fears," including a fear of death, and he cited several highly suspect and blogosphere-debunked studies to make his point. I blogged about my concerns here, as well as linking to the many other bloggers (and one Pajamas Media "Sanity Squad" podcast) that covered the subject here.

Rally Against Islamofascism

Today The United American Committee convened Rallies Against Islamofascism in several US cities, the main one at Ground Zero. Urban Infidel has a slideshow on Flickr.

The LA rally was held in front of CAIR's Southern California Office, and included hanging an effigy of bin Laden.

More to come.

Stephen Jay Wilson: The Fremont Victim No One Talks About

In my last post, I addressed the recent disclosure that the murder of Fremont Aghan-American woman Alia Ansari late last year turns out not to be a hate crime. This after much hype to the contrary by local Muslim groups and media. But in contrast to the outcry surrounding Ansari's death, the Fremont community has been strangely silent on the murder of another member, Stephen Jay Wilson (hat tip Daniel Pipes).

No Evidence of Hate Crime in Alia Ansari Murder

As predicted several months ago at this blog, the Oct. 9, 2006 murder of Fremont Aghan-American woman Alia Ansari turns out not to be a hate crime after all. According to Alameda County Senior Deputy District Attorney Colton Carmine, parolee Manuel Urango, who has a long criminal record, was charged with Ansari's murder. As Carmine put it:

"The investigation is ongoing, and we're really not prepared to talk about motive. At this time, it's not charged as a hate crime and there's no evidence that prosecutors have that qualifies it as a hate crime."

This after community and Muslim groups used the occasion of the alleged "hate crime" to organize a "Wear a Hijab/Turban Day" and attendant rally in which non-Muslims (particularly women) were urged to don the respective head covering. Indeed, as of this writing, the main organizing group, the Foundation for Self-Reliance, is still playing up the hate crime angle.
